[Minneapolis, MN] Sick of Sarah and Autonomy present two distinct flavors of Minneapolis rock to kick off summer ‘08 - (June 20th at Trocaderos)

June 20th is the official first day of summer, and Minneapolis rock bands Autonomy and Sick of Sarah intend on starting it off with a bang.  Trocaderos in downtown Minneapolis is hosting a concert event which showcases these two distinctive and uniquely awesome hometown bands.

On one hand there is the headliner:  Sick of Sarah.  This all-girl rock band formed in Minneapolis in 2005 and immediately got to work building the insane buzz that follows them wherever they go.  They’ve appeared on MTV’s Battle of the Bands show and have toured extensively with their own brand which is often described as an acoustic/electronic rock hybrid of sorts filled with catchy hooks and clever humor.  Their songs combine sympathetic acoustic moments with driving electronic rock, often in the same song.  It’s unique well-crafted music with thoughtful lyrics that has listeners singing along after the first chorus.

On the other hand we have Autonomy, veterans of the Twin Cities music scene.  This band has found its staying power since forming in 2001 through a rabidly loyal fan base devoted to the power trio’s technical and compelling approach to original hard rock.  By contrast, Autonomy takes itself very seriously and demonstrates its incredible chops through intricate rhythms and surging dynamic displays of power.  They’ve spent years focusing people’s attention back on the talent that exists in their local scene, addressing local issues, and stressing a return to musicianship over image and ego.  They constantly challenge their audience to support local music, seek out independent artists, and challenge an industry that favors spoon-feeding people cookie-cutter variety in modern music.

One group has an acerbic tongue-in-cheek wit, and the other has a dead-serious brooding darkness about them.  One grew to popularity very quickly; the other has had a slow and steady build over many years.  They both share one common goal- to start off summer with an exciting showcase of local talent.

Both bands bring fantastic Minneapolis-born rock to the big fancy Trocaderos stage on June 20th.  Tickets are $7 and are available online (www.trocaderos.com) or at the door.

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Thursday March 13th, 2008

[Minneapolis, MN] Jendeen Forberg retracts decision to leave Autonomy - trio returns with renewed vigor

Autonomy and Jendeen Forberg will continue to work together after all.  Only two weeks after announcing her departure from the rock trio, the band is happy to announce they’ve worked out an arrangement that will allow Forberg to pursue her active touring schedule and her work with Autonomy.  Forberg will remain the band’s drummer and will be a creative contributor to the writing and recording of the band’s long-awaited sophomore release.  She will also perform with the band as her schedule will allow and will seek an understudy to cover shows if/when conflicts exist.

Ether, Billy, and Jendeen began recording preliminary sessions in preparation for the tracking of the album on Tuesday March 4th.  The trio had intended on putting together a farewell release which documented the group’s new material, but early listens to the sessions prompted members to dig deep and find a way to work our scheduling conflicts and renew their commitment to the material.  “It’s amazing how quickly things can go from heartbreaking collapse to magical rebirth” says lead singer Ether.  “After hearing the potential of the new material played back to us at Toefist [Studios], and from just the enjoyment we got out of rehearsing together, it became clear that there was a great album here…  and a great friendship as well.  We really dig playing together and after talking it just seemed a shame to break that up when we have so much momentum and such good songs going for us.”

It has been a busy year for Autonomy.  The band hosted a local music concert series, signed with a new artist booking/representation company, and came dangerously close to disbanding all in the course of barely 3 months.  News of Forberg’s rejoining brings some much-needed stability to a band on the rise, and some welcome comfort to fans of the Minneapolis Power Trio.

[Minneapolis, MN] Autonomy bids farewell to longtime drummer Jendeen Forberg

Jendeen Forberg, of the Minneapolis power trio Autonomy, has announced she is parting ways with the band after 3 ½ years.  Jendeen’s other project, Harsh Reality, has been picked up by an agent who will book that group internationally and require a much greater time commitment as a result.  She is expected to cease performing with the group immediately, however there are plans to complete one final recording of the trio before her exit.

Jendeen joined Autonomy in August 2004 after the departure of founding drummer Robert Knott.  She played more than 50 shows with the group in addition to the many shows she played with her other projects during that time.  She and the band were working on the long-awaited follow-up to Autonomy’s self-titled debut CD.

Autonomy has not yet announced plans to find a new drummer, but the decision is expected soon.  The news of Jendeen’s departure  comes on the heels of Autonomy’s own representation deal with Oz Enterprizes less than 2 weeks ago.  The band has not cancelled any appearances yet, but is putting a freeze on booking new dates while they decide what to do.

Ether (aka William Lorentz) and Billy Graczyk thank Jendeen for the experience of writing and performing with her, and wish her and Harsh Reality happiness and success on their world tour.  Founder Ether says of the drummer, “Jendeen is a very genuine person, an amazing drummer, and a great friend.  We created some of the best music of my career together, and I’m honored to have worked with her.”

[Minneapolis, MN] Autonomy inks new artist management deal

Autonomy is excited to announce the inking of a artist management contract with Nick Oz of Oz Enterprizes that grants exclusive booking rights to the veteran power trio.  The band began looking for professional representation in 2007 as they prepared to record and release their long-anticipated sophomore album and first interviewed Oz in February of 2008.  They arrived at their decision last week and finalized the deal on Wednesday.
This marks only the second time in 4 years that the notoriously self-managed band has brought an outsider into the band’s business affairs.  The notoriously self-sufficient band has made a name for itself doing things it’s own way, however the band is confident that professional representation will benefit them as they prepare to record and release their long-awaited sophomore album.  Oz will focus on increasing the band’s exposure and setting up tours while freeing up the group to concentrate on more creative endeavors.
