Autonomy sounds unlike any other band in Minneapolis. Their music is difficult to describe accurately, and even harder to fit into a neat genre description. Too rock to be goth, too melodic to be metal, too electronic to be blues, and too dark to be pop. Your best bet is to search the sonic space between bands like Soundgarden, Godhead, Marilyn Manson, Alice in Chains, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead and Led Zeppelin. Make no mistake though, this is an original band that is blazing it's own path.

The band takes cues from their heros like Tool and Pink Floyd - Autonomy is not afraid to write epic songs, nor are they afraid to be unabashedly catchy. What differentiates Autonomy's music from that of most modern rock, is the powerful dynamics it communicates with. Songs range from simplistic quiet to heavy metal roars without warning. Complicated rhythms are contrasted with big, meaty riffs creating a trademark sound that's impossible to forget.

Lyrically, Autonomy presents poetry as carefully chosen weapons which are equal parts of their musical arsenal. Singer/songwriter Ether showcases his dark side in a manner that makes him seem both intimidating and tremendously vulnerable. He is a goth-rock antihero who is as out of place in the world as he seems to be in his own band.
